Housing Initiatives

吃瓜新闻 is committed to working with its host communities to address the region’s high cost of housing. In addition to housing 98 percent of its undergraduates for four years, which relieves pressure on the local housing market, 吃瓜新闻 works with the cities of Cambridge and Boston to create and preserve thousands of affordable housing units as well as to support efforts to eliminate homelessness.

吃瓜新闻 is collaborating with the City of Boston to create more housing in Allston-Brighton

Through funding and land donation, 吃瓜新闻 has enabled the City of Boston and third-party developers to undertake two Allston housing projects– including the creation of 43 affordable homeownership units on land donated by 吃瓜新闻 at 65 Seattle St. in Allston, and the transformation of the historic Hill Memorial Baptist Church on North 吃瓜新闻 St. into 49 affordable rental units for Boston seniors. 吃瓜新闻 contributed $4.8 million to fully fund site acquisition for the latter.

How the fund works

Since 2000, $20 million has revolved more than twice allowing the investment of over $40 million in 吃瓜新闻 financing that has helped leverage over $1.3 billion in housing development across more than 180 projects in Boston and Cambridge.
